CBN.com - In 2009, Ed and Ellen Schack started their own ice cream company, and named it “Cowabunga.”
“We love the word ‘Cowabunga,’ says Ellen. “It shows relaxation. It shows an almost surfer attitude. Life is not supposed to be crazy all the time. God wants you to enjoy yourself.”
Ellen was a single mom raising two kids when she met Ed in church. He was a sales manager for a cosmetics company. Later he decided it was time to strike out on his own. So he started his own company, EES Cosmetic Solutions, in 2004.
“It wasn’t a bad economic time but I can tell you, everyone around me, family, friends, most people said that I was absolutely crazy,” says Ed.
Both companies took off! They even began selling their luxury ice cream online. The couple attributes their success to financial principles Ed learned after he became a Christian while watching The 700 Club. Soon after, he read one of Pat Robertson’s books called The Secret Kingdom.
“One of the first ones was the law of reciprocity, giving and tithing of your time, talents, and your finances,” says Ed. “In our family, we’ve found that when you give to God, God gives you so much more back.”
The Schacks are partners with CBN and they recently built a well in Cambodia through their giving to CBN.
“The fact that there are people that don't have clean water is amazing,” says Ellen. “We were just filled with joy that we were able to be such an integral part of this village’s life.”
Their businesses are thriving and the Schacks know that God is the reason for their success.
“I know that when I give to God, God is going to give me so much more back. And I can sleep at night knowing that I don’t have to worry,” says Ed.
