The number of teenage girls using the morning-after pill is on the rise, according to a recent report by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

More than 1 in 5 sexually active girls report using the emergency contraceptive, a dramatic increase from a decade earlier when 1 in 12 used the pill.

The CDC report, conducted 2011 to 2013, shows that easy access and relaxed age restrictions have led to the increase.

"Understanding these patterns and trends in sexual activity, contraceptive use, and their impact on teen pregnancy can help provide context regarding the recent decline in the U.S. teen birth rate," researchers said.

With teens now being able to buy the drug without the prescription, Dr. Linda Mintle, a license family therapist, says this is cause for major concern.
