Health officials in Dallas are holding a patient in strict isolation as they evaluate what could be a possible case of the Ebola virus.

Officials at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital say the patient's symptoms and recent travel indicate he may have contracted the dreaded disease. They expect preliminary test results from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to come back Tuesday.

The hospital said it is "following all federal Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Texas Department of Health recommendations to ensure the safety of patients, hospital staff, volunteers, physicians and visitors," Reuters reported.

Ebola has killed more than 3,000 people in Africa and infected four American doctors who traveled to the region.

If the Dallas patient tests positive, this could be the first case that was unknowingly brought to the U.S.
