Carman's Anthems of a Champion

By The 700 Club

CBN.com-DEVASTATING DIAGNOSIS
In February, Carman was diagnosed with terminal, multiple myeloma cancer, a cancer of the blood that affects the body’s bone marrow. He was given a three to five year life expectancy by doctors. Stunned and initially devastated by the news, Carman’s spirit was soon lifted up by the overwhelming love and support received by tens of thousands of fans after posting the news on his Facebook page. To his surprise, people began to post the most encouraging messages. “Just when I was calling my attorney to finalize my will, I looked and there was 10-20,000 comments saying we love you, stay strong, and keep on ministering,” shares Carman. He was encouraged as his brothers and sisters in Christ rallied him back into the fight and prayed him back to his feet. “I have had overwhelming support from fans and ministry partners,” reveals Carman.

Turning the death sentence into a renewed vision and hope for the future, Carman is determined to fight the cancer. “I’m not going down without a fight,” shares Carman. He has decided not to go the traditional route of chemotherapy. Instead he is following the holistic approach by sticking with fruits, vegetables, certain meats, nuts and lots of well-planned supplements.

ANTHEMS OF A CHAMPION
Carman’s latest cd, Anthems of a Champion, features four new recordings of Carman’s biggest hits “The Champion,” “Lazarus Come Forth,” “Radically Saved” and “I Feel Jesus.” The project also features some of Carman’s classics such as “Who’s in the House” and “Addicted to Jesus” and one new song “The Flag” an anthem that weaves the Pledge of Allegiance into an inspirational message of pride in America. This cd is Carman’s first release in six years and his first Sparrow Records release since 2000.

GROWING UP
Carman played the drums at 5, the guitar at 15 and began singing at 16. As his talents developed, Carman began playing the club circuit, while still underage, in Atlantic City, New Jersey and Philadelphia. Soon following, Carman was approached by a Capo in the real life Sopranos the DeCalvcante' crime family to 'represent his interests and help his career', only to say, "I'll decide when I get back from Vegas." In his 1973 green Chevy Vega, Carman drove off to begin his journey. In this short season of time, Carman attended an Andrae Crouch concert and was so moved that he became a Christian, enraging those left behind waiting on a decision.

In 1980, he released his first album, God's Not Finished with Me, followed by the album Some-O-Dat. With his song Sunday's On the Way from the live album came a string of CCM chart successes. As he continued his musical career, Carman established the non-profit organization Carman Ministries. Then in 1985 he released The Champion from which came Carman’s first number one song, of the same name. Another live album—Radically Saved—came in 1988 followed by his first number one album - Revival in the Land in 1989. Carman holds attendances records for the largest solo Christian concerts in history with: 80,000 outdoors in Charlotte, North Carolina and 71,132 indoors at a Texas Stadium as well as the largest ticketed CCM solo concert with 50,000 in Johannesburg, South Africa. In addition to his music career, Carman participates in various television productions and interview duties as a host for the Trinity BroadcastingNetwork.

Over the past 3 decades, Carman has entertained, encouraged and preached the Gospel to millions, crossing denominational, cultural and ethnic lines. Among the greatest of Carman's contributions to Christianity is his bringing back a full force, worship revival not just through song and music but also through dance and drama. Today Carman continues to tour from coast to coast sharing his hit songs. “I have a call of God to touch lives with the gospel of Jesus Christ and that's what I will do until the Lord calls me home,” shares Carman.
